The Cordell Hull Foundation for World Education was established in 1951 to promote the goals of Cordell Hull, the man who holds the record for longevity as Secretary of State (12 years), under Franklin Roosevelt. Nicknamed “the Father of the United Nations,” he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1945. Embracing Hull’s goals of continually improving relations between the United States and other nations, the Foundation promotes international peace and understanding, mainly through cultural and educational exchange.

The Cordell Hull Foundation Teacher Exchange Program provides J-1 visa sponsorship for foreign teachers for a period of 1 to 3 years. Since its inception in 1951, CHF has successfully established programs in schools across the United States, sponsoring thousands of visiting teachers from over fifty countries around the world.

The work of the Foundation, a non-profit organization based in New York, is dedicated to Mr. Hull, the former Secretary of State of the United States and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. He was honored primarily for his efforts as the principal architect of the United Nations. In accordance with the wishes of the late secretary, we seek to promote harmonious courtesy among nations through education and cultural exchange.

We are proud of this accomplishment, of our relationship with our excellent schools and, of course, of our exceptional teachers. Many of the educators shared with us their frustration at not being able to invite foreign nationals to contribute to the diversity and authenticity of the language programs, due to the suspected complexity of the visa process or, we are told, the costs. unaffordable frequently contracted in the effort to bring visa applications to a favorable conclusion.

The programs continue to grow as schools and teachers recommend our program. The Foundation prides itself on its excellent individual service to many great schools in the public, private and immersion sectors and focuses, each year, on continuously expanding its services. CHF offers free personalized technology workshops to schools and school districts as part of our orientation workshops.

Most of the foreign visitors to CHF participate as teachers or interns in bilingual programs in French, Spanish, German or Greek. Others teach or help with programs such as ESL, music, sports and / or drama. Since 1962, CHF teachers have educated thousands of students across the United States in bilingual / bi-cultural programs at the federal, state, and local levels.

To qualify for J-1 exchange visitor status, teachers must hold valid teaching certificates from their home countries, have at least three years of teaching experience or equivalent, and meet to other various requirements. Teachers are in contract with the school, school district or state education system on an interim basis for a period of one year, extendable to three years. Participants are expected to return to their home countries to exercise their talents and knowledge acquired in the United States, with the goal of strengthening the bonds and communications that unite us to other nations of the world.
